Australian actress Portia de Rossi, known for role on the television series Ally McBeal, married American comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in August 2008.
Portia de Rossi was married once to documentary filmmaker Mel Metcalfe, however shortly after it became known that she was a Lesbian. Portia dated Francesca Gregorini for four years, however in 2004 the relationship ended and she began dating Ellen. The new relationship has been much more in the public eye.
When the same sex marriage ban in California was lifted, DeGeneres announced publicly in May of 2008 that she and Portia were engaged to be married. Media reports that Ellen gave Portia a three-carat diamond ring, pink in color. The wedding took place on August 16, 2008 at the couples home, and was attended by 19 guests that included the mothers of both celebrities. Both are vegan, and live together in Beverly Hills, CA.
The passing of Proposition 8 during the 2008 presidential elections has since put the legal status of the marriage in doubt, though we wish them the best!
