Dallas Cowboys NFL quarterback Tony Romo began dating singer and actress Jessica Simpson in November of 2007. The first couple months of the relationship were covered in the press because on December 16, 2007, Simpson attended a Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game at Texas Stadium, and Romo had a bad performance in the loss to the Eagles. Further controversy erupted before a playoff game against the New York Giants when pictures surfaced of Romo, along with a couple other teammates, at a resort in Cabo San Lucas with Simpson.
President Bush, when meeting with the Giants after their Super Bowl win, made a joke about the incidents, which he affectionately called the "Jessica jinx". During the traditional White House reception for the winning team, he stated "We're going to send Jessica Simpson to the Democrat National Convention." We now know that strategy didn't work!
News sources reported in July 2009 that the couple had split.
