Luke and Lorelai Gilmore first hooked up in season four, after flirting since the show began. Although both characters dated others during the shows run, fans were pulling as the series came to an abrupt end in 2007 for this couple. The show ended due to a contract dispute between the studio and the original writers. Cast and crew felt that the show did not have the same wit that it did without the writing team that created it.
Lorelai's parents did not approve of the romance, and in season five, they used her ex-husband, Chris, to break the couple apart. This worked, and the two split for about two episodes. By the end of season five however, Lorelai had proposed. Luke accepted at the start of season six.
The couple ran into problems however has the wedding kept getting pushed back. First, Lorelai and her daughter Rory had a feud that needed handling. Then, Luke discovered he had a daughter. After awhile, Lorelai gave Luke an ultimatum… elope or never get married. He told her he could not just jump like that. In a fit of depression, Lorelai ends up hooking up with Rory’s father, her ex. A couple days later, Luke shows up in his truck ready to elope, and Lorelai tells him the truth.
Lorelai and Luke remained split until the final episode of the series, where we get to see them kissing once again.
BTW, some cool facts since I went on the Warner Bros. studio tour last year. I got to walk around the set of the show!
- The houses in Stars Hollow are real, but there is not really anything inside of them. When characters walk inside, they cut to a sound stage.
- When we were driving around on a golf cart, we ran into Scott Patterson (who plays Luke). He was nice. He introduced himself and shook our hands.
- There were actually two of everyones cars; Lorelai’s, Rory’s, and Lukes. We only saw one version of his boat though.
- All the snow on the ground during the winter scenes is actually potato flakes.
