Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks is perhaps one of the classiest and most respected actors on the silver screen today.  The actor, who began his rise to fame as co-lead of the hit television show “Bosom Buddies”, has become one of the most sought after leading men in Hollywood.

Tom’s rise to fame came with a string of 1980’s comedies like “Splash”, “Dragnet”, and “Big”.  Starting to feel like he was being typecast into the funny-guy role, Tom shook things up a bit with the serious AIDS drama Philadelphia, and started a great romantic on-screen relationship with Meg Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle”.  At this point, if Tom was close to the top, it was “Forrest Gump” in 1994 that really put him into the upper echelon of acting.

Years before the rise to supremacy, on the set of “Bosom Buddies”, he met his future wife Rita Wilson.  It was not until 1985’s “Volunteers” that the relationship turned serious. Rita and Tom and co-starred with the late John Candy in this movie about a spoiled rich college kid that goes on a peace corps mission in order to evade debtors.

Rita is no visitor to the big screen herself.  She has been in quite a few of her own movies, including many alongside her husband.  Many people credit her with getting the go ahead for the movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.

Celebrity Couples Online message board user Claire states that Rita Wilson had one of the best lines in cinematography.  “It is physically impossible to French-kiss a man who leaves the new roll of toilet paper resting on top of the empty cardboard roll. Does he not see it?” – Rita Wilson, “The Story of Us”
